ParannParann (பரண்) is a Tamil word meaning "loft" — the overhead storage space in traditional homes where families keep things safe, sometimes across generations. We chose this name because it captures what we are building: a place where your data is stored securely, under your control, for as long as you need it.
What Parann does
Parann is a hosted content management system. It provides a simple scaffold for data in and data out — upload content via API, retrieve it by ID, UUID, or lookup path, list what you have, and link uploads together using semantic graph relationships.
Content is organized into series — named collections with human-readable paths. Each upload gets a UUID for global identity. The graph API lets you connect uploads with predicates like skos:broader, rel:derivedFrom, or part:isPartOf, forming a knowledge graph across your content.
Authentication uses Substrate (SS58) keypairs. An administrator controls the instance and can grant scribe access to other addresses. No passwords, no OAuth providers — just cryptographic signing.
The Metarium ecosystem
Parann is the CMS layer in a modular ecosystem:
- Parann — hosted CMS for storing and retrieving content
- Mummai — public file registry and hash registry with custodianship changes, enabling data portability and custody transfer between parties
- Metarium AI — a substrate for AI agents that keeps self-hosted data, with guided installations for private CMS instances
Each layer is independent. You can use Parann as a hosted CMS with Mummai as the public blockchain, or run a private CMS on a private blockchain for maximum privacy. The layers are interchangeable.
Portability
Portability is a consequence of the architecture, not a feature bolted on. The ecosystem is modular — you can swap the CMS layer, the blockchain layer, or both. Move from a hosted Parann instance to a private CMS, or the other way around. Your data travels with you.
A private CMS on a private blockchain provides maximum privacy and independence, though infrastructure costs are higher. A hosted instance on a public chain is simpler and cheaper. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time.
